COLLEGE SOCCER: Port Angeles’ Millie Long scores twice as Peninsula women win

Men shut out South Pugets Sound 4-0

PORT ANGELES — Millie Long scored twice and Miya Clark assisted on two goals as the Peninsula College women’s soccer team earned a 6-1 NWAC North Division win over Edmonds.

It just took a while for the goals to come in numbers for the Pirates in Wednesday’s game, which doubled as the women’s home opener at Wally Sigmar Field.

Peninsula took an early 1-0 lead in the eighth minute when Clark sent in a perfect corner kick from right to left to the middle of the Tritons’ goal box, and Mackenzie Corkill was there to head the ball home.

Long hit the post after a pass from Nordland’s Grace Johnson in the 42nd minute, but the duo linked up moments later on a counterattack and Johnson slipped a pass to a trailing Long, who got the shot off between two Edmonds defenders.

Johnson scored into an open net in the 48th minute after a nice feed by Malia Miller, and Long added her second in the 56th minute when Clark played the ball up the left side of the end line and found Long for another open-net strike and a 4-0 lead.

Addy Becker (Allysun Gerke) and Hana Scott (Carissa Miller) added Peninsula’s final two scores.

The Pirates (4-0-0, 5-0-1) host Everett at noon Saturday.

Dominguez opened the scoring in the fourth minute off an assist by Yusaku Shimakura and added another goal before halftime on a Kai Beigler assist.

Jonathon DeMotta scored on an unassisted goal in the 53rd and assisted on Beigler’s 66th-minute goal. Goalkeeper Alejandro Lopez saved three shots on goal to preserve the clean sheet.

Peninsula (4-0-0, 7-0-0) hosts Highline at 2 p.m. Saturday.
