COLLEGE SOCCER: Peninsula women in NWAC semifinals

Play Friday at 4 p.m.

TUKWILA — Riding a 12-game winning and unscored-upon streak, the Peninsula College women’s soccer team heads into today’s Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer semifinal with Highline seeking to repeat as NWAC champions.

The Pirates (12-0-1) are the only undefeated team in the NWAC this season, with their only goal and tie of the season coming in the opener against Skagit Valley. Since then, they have rolled off 12 straight wins in which they outscored opponents 78-0.

They are looking for their NWAC-leading seventh title in women’s soccer.

The women’s semifinal matches will be played today with Highline (15-0-3) and Peninsula in the first women’s semifinal match at 4 p.m. at Starfire Sports Complex.

The Thunderbirds were the lone No. 2 seed to win in the quarterfinals as they went down to Chemeketa and defeated the Storm 2-1.

Other semifinal

Tacoma will take on Spokane in the final match today, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Titans are back in the final four this season with a 16-1-3 overall record while going 12-0-2 in the West Region.

Tacoma controlled every facet of its 6-0 victory in the quarterfinals over Umpqua last week.

They take on Spokane, which is no stranger to the NWAC Final Four, making its fourth-straight appearance with a championship in 2022 and a runner-up finish in 2023. The Sasquatch look as strong as ever with an 11-1-1 overall record. They defeated Whatcom 3-1 in the quarterfinals.

Spokane and Tacoma are each searching for their fourth title. The Titans last won the title in 1998, however, after winning three in a row. Highline has won two titles in its history, with the last coming in 2019, when they won two of three titles.

The Pirate men’s all-stars will play in the NWAC All-Star Game at 9 a.m. Sunday.

The women’s championship is set for 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets can be purchased onsite with a debit or credit card. No cash sales will be accepted.
