COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Peninsula teams swept by Everett

EVERETT — The Peninsula men and women were swept by Everett on the road .

The men lost 87-84, while the Pirate women lost 73-64.

In the men’s game, Peninsula held a 43-37 lead at the half, but the Pirates gave up 50 points in the second half. The men lost despite shooting 52 percent (13 for 25) from 3-point range while Everett shot 32 percent (9 for 28).

It was the second close loss for the Pirates to first-place Everett. Earlier in the season in Port Angeles, Everett hit a 3-pointer with 2.7 seconds left in regulation to tie a game against Peninsula. The Trojans went on to win in overtime.

The loss also napped a three-game winning streak.

Eli’sha Sheppard had one of his biggest games of the year for Peninsula, leading the team with 22 points. Colby Jackson had 17 points on four 3-pointers and five assists, while Trent Warren had 11 points and seven rebounds. Kaelin Crane and Cameron Burton each scored nine points, with Burton adding six assists. Marky Adams pulled down 10 boards to go with his six points.

In the women’s game, the Pirates played Everett even through three-quarters of the game, but were put in a 14-point hole in a third quarter in which they were outscored 19-11.

Jamelia Clark had a double-double for the Pirates, with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Yamelei Rodriguez led the tam in scoring with 19 points, while Ashlynn Sharp scored 13.

The Pirates struggled from outside. Sharp went 3 for 8 from beyond the 3-point line, but the rest of the team shot 0 for 15 from beyond the arc.

The men (5-4, 15-9) remain in third place in the North Division. They next host Olympic at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The women (2-5, 4-15) host Olympic at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
