COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Peninsula men, women sweep Whatcom

BELLINGHAM — The Peninsula College men’s and women’s basketball teams swept Whatcom on Wednesday, with the Pirate women holding down the Orcas 60-49 and the men winning 82-70.

In the men’s contest, Peninsula held Whatcom nearly 20 points below it’s season scoring average of 89.7, limiting Whatcom to just 29.9 percent shooting, also down nearly 20 points from their per-game field-goal percentage.

Cameron Burton led the Pirates with 27 points on 10 of 15 shooting, including an on-target 5 of 7 from beyond the 3-point arc.

Peninsula point guard Colby Jackson also had a big night, sinking four 3s and scoring 21 points.

He added five assists and three steals.

Eli’Sha Sheppard added 10 points, six rebounds and three steals off the bench for Peninsula (4-3, 14-8), and fellow reserve James Buckley scored six points and grabbed seven rebounds in 17 minutes of action.

Forks’ Marky Adams scored six and had eight rebounds.

The Pirates held Lummi product Trazil Lane to nine points, down from his per-game average of 17.4.

Peninsula visits Shoreline on Wednesday.

Women’s Game Peninsula 60, Whatcom 49

BELLINGHAM — Jamellia Clark had a double-double with 22 points on 9 of 16 shooting and 12 rebounds to pace the Pirates.

Peninsula led 22-11 after one quarter and maintained that margin at the end of every quarter.

Ashlynn Sharp added 16 points, connecting on 5 of 14 3-point shots, along with six rebounds, four assists and four steals for Peninsula (2-4, 4-14).

Tiffani Smith added 12 points and eight rebounds, seven on the offensive glass in the win.

The Pirates visit Shoreline on Wednesday.
