DES MOINES — The Peninsula basketball men went to overtime to beat Chemeteka (Salem, Ore.) in a wild 108-103 thriller at the Highline Crossover Tournament Sunday.
The men shot 3-for-3 on 3-pointers in the overtime and scored 21 points in extra five minutes to pull the game out.
Darrion Daniels came close to a triple-double, leading the Pirates with 26 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. Alex Baham hit five 3-pointers (on 5-for-9 shooting from beyond the arc) and scored 22 points.
Six Pirates scored in double figures as Cole Rabedeaux, Kevin Baker, Zach Day and Omar Lo all added 11 points. The men shot 52 percent from the floor for the game.
In their last 65 minutes of play — counting the second half of their Saturday game — the Pirates have scored a whopping 157 points, an average of 97 points per 40 minutes.

DES MOINES — Despite a 49-point second half, the men came up short in a loss at the Highline Crossover Tournament, getting beat by Yakima Valley 78-71.
Peninsula and Yakima Valley combined for 96 points in the wild second half. The Pirates got off to a sluggish start, scoring just 22 points in the first half.
The men were undone by their outside shooting, as they hit only 4-of-21 from beyond the 3-point arc.
Daniels led the men with 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists, while Rabedeaux scored 14 and Omar Lo 12. Baker had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Pirates next host Elite Prep Jan. 3. Elite Prep, which is out of Southern California, beat the Pirates earlier this season.

Peninsula 68, Green River 64
AUBURN — The Peninsula basketball women rode a big fourth quarter, squeaked out a tough one against Green River at the Green River Crossover 68-64.
The women won two out of three at the event at Green River College, beating last year’s Northwest Conference defending champion Lane and losing to Columbia Basin in overtime.
The Pirates (7-5) entered the fourth quarter Saturday down 53-58 to Green River, but outscored the Gators 20-11 in the fourth to pull out the win.
“I think that we had a really good tournament overall. I think we’re starting to play together,” said coach Alison Crubm.
A highlight of the tournament was the Peninsula women beating Lane College in the opening game Thursday. Lane beat Peninsula last year at the NWAC championship game and came into the game ranked No. 1 in the conference.
“It was a great confidence-builder [to be able to beat Lane],” Crumb said. “And we have some people on the team who lost that championship game, so it meant a lot to them.”
Five Pirates ended up in double figures in Saturday’s Green River game, led by Anaya Rodisha with 17. Tiffani Smith scored 13 while Alicia Dugan had a great all-around game with 12 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
Yamelei Rodriguez had 11 points and seven rebounds, while fresh off her 27-point, 24-rebound effort in the Friday overtime loss to Columbia Basin, Jenise McKnight had 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Pirates next play Dec. 30 at Clark College in Vancouver.
