BOYS SWIMMING: Roughriders send seniors out with a win in final home meet

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles boys swimmers picked up two new individual state meet qualifying times and three new individual district times in a 132-47 senior night victory over Bremerton.

“[We] recognized four seniors competing in their final home meet: Santi Montal, Matthew Tiemersma, Andrew Methner (co-captain), and Cameron Butler (co-captain),” Riders coach Rich Butler said.

Port Angeles placed first in 10 of 12 events and outscored Bremerton in 11 of 12 events.

Cameron Butler was a dual-event winner, claiming the 100-yard backstroke with a state qualifying time of 59.09 seconds and the 200 individual medley in 2:10.08.

Taylor Martin also picked up a state time in the 100 back, finishing just behind Butler in 59.28. Martin also won the 100 freestyle (56.59).

Josh Gavin won two events for the Riders, claiming the 100 breaststroke in a district qualifying 1:16.58 and the 500 freestyle.

Butler, Gavin, Martin and Alex Hertzog teamed to win the 200 medley relay (1:52.26).

Methner won the 1-meter diving event with 194.1 points.

Josh Krzysiak claimed the 100 butterfly (1:01.83).

Krzysiak, Butler, Hertzog and Martin swam to first in the 400 free relay (3:49.21).

The 200-free relay team of Carter Droz, Jonathan Maestas, Adam Boyd and Henry Shaw won with a time of 1:50.81.

And Shaw picked up two district times with second-place finishes in the 200 free (2:08.56) and 500 free (5:49.15).

Port Angeles (3-2) swims at Olympic on Tuesday.
