ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Port Angeles girls bowling team

For the first time, we’re recognizing an entire team for our weekly Athletes of the Week feature.

Usually, a brand new sports team struggles in its first couple of years.

Not the Port Angeles girls bowling team, which was formed just a few weeks ago. In the girls’ inaugural season, they qualified for the West-Central District 3 tournament with a second-place finish at the Olympic League tournament last week.

The Roughriders saved their best for the league tourney, bowling a season-high game of 704 and a season-high Baker score of 161. They got three girls — Abby Robinson, Zoey Van Gordon and Paige Pangara — ranked in the top 10 at the league tournament.

Meanwhile, Sequim will send two individuals, Nikoline Updike and Morgan Kayser, to district, with a third bowler, Tilly Lundstrom, as an alternate.

The district tournament will be held in Tacoma this Saturday.
