ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Mariah Traband, Port Angeles soccer and Arianna Stovall, Sequim volleyball

Last week saw some outstanding performances in Sequim and Port Angeles from girls helping their respective teams make pushes to the postseason.

In Sequim, Arianna Stovall had one of her biggest matches ever in her senior year. She totaled 15 kills and two stuff blocks in a huge win over North Kitsap for the Wolves’ first win over the powerhouse Vikings in perhaps a decade. This performance came after a win over Port Angeles in which she had 12 kills.

The victory likely assures the Wolves a tie for second place in the Olympic League heading into postseason.

For the Port Angeles girls soccer team, Mariah Traband had a big week as the Roughriders won two matches in a row. The freshman had a goal and an assist in a 2-1 win over Sequim, then she added a goal later in the week in a 3-1 win over Bremerton.

The two straight wins locks up a playoff slot for the Riders, who have a chance for a tie for third with an important match against Kingston tonight.
