ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Luke Flodstrom, Nathan Basden, Port Angeles tennis

The Port Angeles boys tennis team is having one of its most dominant seasons in years, having gone 12-2 on the regular season, finishing second in the Olympic League to a powerful squad from North Kitsap.

The Olympic League championships begin Wednesday and the Roughriders can be expected to do a lot of damage at the two-day meet and at the West-Central district tournament that begins Nov. 1.

One of the big reasons for the team’s success this year has been the No. 1 doubles team of Luke Flodstrom and Nathan Basden.

Going up against the top doubles teams from around the league, Flodstrom and Basden have won 12 out of 13 matches, not losing a single set in any of their victories. Their one loss was to Grady DeVries and Spencer Gillespie of North Kitsap and they split two matches with that duo, which will likely place at state.

Don’t be suprised to see Flodstrom and Basden, also teammates on the Port Angeles baseball team, qualify for the 2A state tournament.
