ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Jessica Dietzman and Kali Wiker, Sequim doubles’ tennis

There were a number of great candidates for Athletes of the Week this week, with Brennan Gray and Jada Cargo hitting home runs during a huge Port Angeles rally to help the Roughriders softball win the West Central District III tourney. And Erin Macedo hitting a home run to help Quilcene come from behind to win the Tri-District softball tournament.

It was a tough choice, and we went with Sequim’s Jessica Dietzman and Kali Wiker, who did something truly special this weekend.

Dietzman and Wiker, already champions of the Olympic League in doubles’ tennis, went on to win the West Central District III championship as well.

They not only won the district title, they did it without losing a single set. More impressively, Wiker and Dietzman have not lost a single match the entire year as a doubles’ team.

We wish good luck to this Sequim duo as the girls get ready to play in the State 2A championships Friday.

Athlete of the Week is brought to you by the sports department at the Peninsula Daily News along with the sponsorship of Swain’s General Store serving Clallam and Jefferson counties since 1957.
