ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Janessa Ramos, Forks girls basketball, and Manaseh Lanphear-Ramirez, East Jefferson wrestling

This week, we honor two athletes in different sports at opposite ends of the Olympic Peninsula as our Athletes of the Week.

Janessa Ramos had her best game of the year last week for the Forks girls basketball team in a 78-26 win over Chief Leschi. Ramos had a rare triple-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. She also added six steals. She is one of the big reasons the Spartans are 5-0 in league and 11-3 overall.

On the east side, Manaseh Lanphear-Ramirez had one of his best meets for the East Jefferson boys wrestling squad. He was one of only two Olympic Peninsula wrestlers at the Port Angeles Battle For the Axe meet to go 5-0 on the day with no forfeits.

Lanphear-Ramirez, wrestling at 150 pounds, won three matches with pins and two others by decision in Saturday’s meet. He just came off a second-place finish in his weight division at The Rock tournament late last month on Vashon Island and also had a first-place finish at the Forks Invitational in early December.

Athletes of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles.
