ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Dylin Shockley, East Jefferson girls basketball; Jericho Julmist, Sequim boys basketball

We again pick an East Jefferson girls basketball player for one of our Athletes of the Week.

Dylin Shockley has had two of the best games of her career back-to-back, helping to lead the resurgent Rivals to four straight wins.

Against Klahowya last Tuesday, Shockley nailed eight 3-pointers and scored 30 in a Rivals’ win. She showed that was no fluke in her following game Friday, hitting five 3-pointers and scoring 28 points as the Rivals beat Life Christian.

The Sequim boys basketball team is 10-0, but it’s been hard to pick an Athlete of the Week from that team because it is so balanced with so many contributors. Jericho Julmist has emerged as one of the team’s leaders, with games of 20, 23 and 31 points earlier this season.

Against Olympic Peninsula rival Port Angeles, Julmist contributed a crucial 16 points. But he’ll be remembered most for his three-quarters court shot at the first-half buzzer that hit nothing but net, giving Sequim momentum going into the half. On Friday, against powerhouse North Kitsap, the Wolves absolutely crushed the Vikings by 28 points as Julmist poured in 27 points and pulled down 16 rebounds.
