ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Andrew Perez-Lopez, Quilcene football, and Lilly Anne Lancaster, Port Angeles girls soccer

This week, we recognize a pair of athletes who came through in the clutch for their teams in dramatic victories.

Andrew Perez-Lopez pretty much did it all for the resurgent Quilcene Rangers in their exciting 28-26 win over Charles Wright. On offense, he ran 17 times for 186 yards, which included a 45-yard touchdown run. He also threw a touchdown pass.

Most all, he made a critical interception deep in Quilcene territory with less than two minutes left in the game to seal the victory as the Rangers improved to 3-1 on the season.

Port Angeles’ Lilly Anne Lancaster, just a freshman, played in her sixth varsity game last week against Olympic Peninsula rival Sequim. She booted in a loose ball on a free kick to beat Sequim 3-2. The score not only came in the second overtime, it actually came in stoppage time. Talk about clutch.
