ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Matthew Miller, Port Angeles boys soccer

Port Angeles High School freshman Matthew Miller had quite the varsity debut for the Roughriders boys soccer team.

The Storm King veteran had a hat trick, scoring three goals in the Riders’ season opener Saturday against East Jefferson. He also added three assists to go along with his hat trick.

Miller scored three different ways, drawing a penalty in the first half and taking his own penalty kick. He scored in the upper post near corner in the second half, then added his third on a ground shot to the far post. For his huge first varsity game ever, Miller was named the match’s offensive player. Look to see his name more all spring as the boys’ soccer season gets rolling.

Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles.
