ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Kade Highfield, Forks football

There were a lot of heroes who helped lead the Forks Spartans to an exciting 37-33 win over Ilwaco this weekend.

Titus Rowley had a pick-six touchdown on defense and another interception, Mario Reyes kicked four extra points and a 35-yard field goal, while Cash Barajas had 124 return yards and a 60-yard interception return, all instrumental in the close win.

But we’re going with Forks running back Kade Highfield, who ran for a tough 47 yards on 10 carries and scored three touchdowns. On defense, he contributed four tackles, including two tackles for loss.

It was a big win for the Spartans, who have battled a rash of injuries all season. Despite al the injuries, the Ilwaco win put the Spartans at the top of the Pacific 2B standings. Highfield and his Forks teammates look to make it two straight wins with a game at Adna from the Central 2B League on Friday.

Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles.
