Every year, the Sequim volleyball team makes it a goal to knock off perennial powerhouse North Kitsap. Last week, for the first time in a few years, the Wolves accomplished that goal, beating the Vikings 3-1.
One of the big reasons for that victory was freshman Jordyn Julmist, who led the team with 11 kills and four stuff blocks while going up against North Kitsap’s top hitter. Her teammate Kassi Montero also added 10 kills.
The victory was not only a huge confidence boost for the 10-3 (11-4 overall) Wolves, it might give Sequim an important second-place finish in the Olympic League as 10-2 North Kitsap has to play another match against league champion Bainbridge. The Wolves, who are now up to No. 16 in the state in the RPI rankings, wrap up their league season today against winless Bremerton.
Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles.
