ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Hope Glasser, Sequim basketball

Hope Glasser

Hope Glasser

Sequim’s Hope Glasser picked a perfect time to get hot for the Wolves.

In the basketball girls’ most important game of the year, a loser-out regionals matchup against Foster, Glasser scored 11 out of her 16 points in the third quarter to help spark an amazing comeback, saving the Wolves’ season.

Sequim was down 44-26 midway through the third quarter, seemingly out of the game at that point, when the Wolves went on one of the most spectacular runs you will ever see in high school basketball. Sequim outscored Foster 28-0 over those final 12 minutes to stun the Bulldogs 54-44, earning a berth at the state 2A tournament.

Glasser, who was saddled with foul trouble in the first half, scored seven straight points in the third quarter to spark the Wolves’ comeback.

This is Sequim’s first trip to state since the 2006-07 season. The Wolves (17-7) will face their Olympic League 2A Division rivals Port Angeles (20-4) in the opener of the 2A State Tournament on Wednesday.
