Gabe Long

For the second week in a row, a Peninsula College men’s basketball player has been named Athlete of the Week.

Gabe Long is a 2019 Port Angeles High School graduate who is showing, along with teammate Nate Despain of Sequim, he belongs at the college basketball level.

In a big win Friday over Green River, Long scored eight points, hitting a pair of 3-pointers. In fact, he shot 2 for 2 from 3-point range and one of his 3-pointers was a buzzer-beater at the end of the first half, giving the Pirates much-needed momentum going into the break.

Following up that performance, Long scored 12 points Sunday against Northwest Indian College, shooting 5 for 8 from the field. He also pulled down five rebounds.

Over the three-game Skagit Valley Turkey Tournament, Long shot 8 for 12 from the field and averaged 7.3 points a game, helping the Pirates sweep all three games at the tournament.

Long played basketball and ran cross-country and track for the Roughriders.
