We don’t normally feature Peninsula College students as our Athlete of the Week, but we’re making an exception this week for the Pirates’ Marky Adams, a 2017 Forks High School graduate now playing hoops in Port Angeles.

Adams, coming from a small 1A school, is already flexing the muscles on his 6-foot-10 frame early in his freshman year, scoring 12 points (including the winning basket in overtime) and pulling down 14 boards in his first college game against Mount Hood. Adams followed that up with a 16-point, six-rebound effort against Big Bend in the Skagit Valley Tournament this past weekend.

In four games so far for the Pirates, Adams is shooting 72.4 percent from the floor, averaging 11.5 points and 6 rebounds per game, showing that local products, even from a 1A school, can thrive at the next level.

Athlete of the Week is brought to you by the sports department at the Peninsula Daily News along with the sponsorship of Swain’s General Store serving Clallam and Jefferson counties since 1957.
