ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Cerise Moss, Neah Bay girls basketball

Neah Bay’s Cerise Moss had a spectacular opening game for the Red Devils, who go into this season as the two-time defending state 1B champions.

Moss hit a total of five 3-pointers against Port Angeles on Saturday as the Red Devils beat the 2A school 43-28. Moss shot 5-for-11 on her threes, finishing with 15 points and also pulled down seven rebounds. She is one of the leaders returning from last year’s state champion and says the Red Devils are serious about winning three straight championships.

On the same day a couple of hours earlier, just down Park Avenue from Port Angeles High School at the Peninsula College campus, Cerise’s older sister, Ryana, a member of last year’s championship team, hit four 3-pointers for the Pirates in a 67-52 victory over Bellevue College. Ryana added another five 3-pointers Sunday in a win over Green River.
