ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Ben Sweet, Sequim golf

Sequim golfer Ben Sweet started the season a little bit slowly, but he was really beginning to heat up before spring break.

Sweet, the defending Olympic 2A League co-champion and the winner of last summer’s Clallam County Pro-Am, has won medalist honors in his last two matches.

He took first on March 25 against North Mason with a 3-under par 33 at Cedars at Dungeness, then followed up shooting a 1-over 37, fighting rain and high winds at Cedars at Dungeness again on March 31 in a win over a strong Kingston team.

Sweet, who has signed to play collegiate golf at Whitman College in Walla Walla, is one of the reasons the Wolves are 5-0 so far and hoping to go deep into the postseason as a team. They return to action this week with a match Friday at Peninsula Golf Course against Port Angeles.

Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles.
