ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Ben Schneider, Port Angeles soccer

Ben Schneider

Ben Schneider

Port Angeles’ Ben Schneider has been battling a sore hip this season, but that didn’t stop him from scoring two goals Saturday in a friendly to help the Roughriders soccer team draw with Sequim 4-4.

Schneider picked up the pair of goals despite missing nearly half the game with his sore hip.

It was Schneider’s fifth multi-goal game this year (which includes a hat trick against Port Townsend). Schneider, who scored 12 goals all of last year in an outstanding all-Peninsula MVP season, has been even better this year.

He already has 13 goals in just nine games this season in helping to lead the Roughriders to a solid 6-2-1 start on the season.

And he’s not just a scorer as he has tallied a number of assists this season, as well.

Athlete of the Week is brought to you by the sports department at the Peninsula Daily News along with the sponsorship of Swain’s General Store serving Clallam and Jefferson counties since 1957.
