ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Alex Angevine, Port Angeles baseball

Port Angeles’ Alex Angevine is getting hot right when the Roughriders most need him.

The Riders baseball team is making a hard push for the playoffs and Angevine got red hot last week in a home-and-away series against Bremerton.

In an April 29 win at home, Angevine was 3-for-3 with a double, triple, four runs scored and an RBI, leading the Riders to a 9-0 win. He managed to put up near identical stats on April 30 in Bremerton, going 3-for-3, again with a double and a triple, three runs scored and four RBIs as Port Angeles crushed the Knights 26-5 to vault themselves into third place in the Olympic League.

Add to that an April 25 14-3 nonleague win against Orting in which Angevine had a hit, two runs scored, two RBIs and two stolen bases, that’s 7-for-8 with nine runs scored and seven RBIs in three games.

The Riders will need senior leader Angevine to remain hot as they have a final home-and-away series against Kingston. If Port Angeles sweeps again, the team will finish all alone in third in the Olympic League.
