Season starts Oct. 21

Register now for YMCA youth basketball league

PORT ANGELES — Registration for Olympic Peninsula YMCA’s youth basketball leagues is open through Sept. 30.

The YMCA offers coed leagues for Kinderhoops, Grades 1-2, 3-4 and boys and girls offerings for grades 5-6 if enough participants register.

Kinderhoops fees are $55 for YMCA members, $70 for nonmembers.

The Kinderhoops season will run from Oct. 21-Nov. 30.

All other leagues are $65 for YMCA members, $80 for the public.

They will run from Oct. 21-Dec. 14.

Atwell holes out

SEQUIM — Sequim’s Alex Atwell recorded his fourth-ever hole-in-one while playing a round at The Cedars at Dungeness on Sept. 5.

Atwell aced the 143-yard par-3 No. 8-hole using his pitching wedge and a Titleist Pro-V1 golf ball.

His shot was witnessed by Megan Borman of Sequim.

SEQUIM — Bobbie Piety claimed the top spot as the Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course’s Women’s Golf Group recently played a game of Even Steven.

Piety was followed by Jane Peoples in the First Flight.

Peoples edged Piety 32-31 for low putt total honors.

Mimi Shin recorded both closest-to-the-pin awards, hitting it close on No. 8 and No. 17.

Shin also tallied two birdies on No. 11 and No. 17.

Yoon Park had the group’s other birdie on No. 8.

Judy Reno was tops in Flight Two with Kim Mishko runner-up.

Reno earned the KP on No. 8, hitting within 13-feet, 1-inch, while Bev Handshumaker was within 15 feet on No. 17.

Mishko edged Carin Bunney 32-34 for low putt totals.

The Cedars Women are gearing up for their popular annual tournament Whine & Roses. Women come from all over the Puget Sound area to participate in this event. They expect a full field of 144 for a day and a half of golf, food and of course, fun.

Travel ball registration

PORT ANGELES — Registration is open through Sept. 23 for Port Angeles Youth Basketball’s AAU travel teams for boys and girls in fourth-through-eighth-grades.

Try outs are tentatively scheduled for Sept. 19 and 22.

The program fees are $300 per player
