Lifeguard course forming at the Sequim YMCA

SEQUIM — A lifeguard certification course will be hosted by the YMCA of Sequim starting Nov. 8.

The courses includes two online systems, classroom training and pool sessions.

Pre-class swim workouts are available for anyone who needs to improve their swim skills.

Completion of the class will provide a Lifeguard Certification plus CPR, First Aid, AED and Emergency Oxygen certifications.

Students must be age 15 by the final day of class, complete the swim test on Oct. 25 and the online learning system by the first day of training.

The swim test will be held at the YMCA, 510 N. Fifth Ave., at 11 a.m. Oct. 25.

Football booster binglo

PORT ANGELES — An evening of bingo under black lights, or binglo, will be hosted by the Port Angeles Football Booster Club on Friday.

The fundraiser will be held at the Naval Elks Lodge Ballroom, 131 W. First St., with doors at 6 p.m. and the games starting at 7 p.m.

Admission is $20 which provides entry and one bingo card with 10 games. Additional cards also are $20.

Those who register in advance will receive two free raffle cards.

Rivals takeover Ferino’s

PORT HADLOCK — The East Jefferson Rivals Youth Football program will takeover Ferino’s Pizzeria, 846 Ness’ Corner Road, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

A portion of all sales will go to support the youth football and cheer program.

Ladies wrapping up

SEQUIM — After a successful conclusion to their annual Days of Whine of Roses Tournament, the season for Cedars at Dungeness Women’s Golf group is winding down.

The group had 16 players compete in the final Monthly Medal round of the season on Tuesday.

In the First Flight, Jane Peoples lead the way with a score of 89 and Anne Elwell was tops in the Second Flight with a score of 94.

The First Flight net score winner was Kathleen McCarthy with a score of 73 followed by Pat Harrop with a score of 76.

Second Flight net scores were equally as close with first place going to Judy Reno shooting 73 and Bev Handshumaker right behind her with a 75.

Pat Harrop earned the First Flight closest-to-the pin prize on the No. 8 hole, landing her shot 4 feet, 6.5 inches from the cup. Marine Hirschfeld also came up with a KP, her drive coming within 17-8 of the hole.

In the Second Flight, Anne Elwell was hitting lights out off the tee by winning both KP holes. On No. 8 her drive was 10-4 and on No. 17 she was 13-3.5 from the cup.

Linda Hash posted 31 putts to win the First Flight low putts contest, with Hirschfeld and Mimi Shin tied at 33.

Judy Reno had 33 putts and Bev Handshumaker totaled 35 putts in the Second Flight.

Birdies were made by Anne Elwell on No. 3, Shin on Nos. 1 and 8, Jane Peoples on No. 7 and Harrop on No. 8.

This Tuesday, the women will be playing a Partner’s Eclectic and the group plans to wrap the year with a luncheon and holiday/Christmas event.
