AREA SPORTS: Sequim VFW hosting Army-Navy football game watch party Saturday

Dungeness crab survey

SEQUIM — Sequim VFW Post 4760 will host a big screen showing of one of the greatest rivalries in sports, the Army-Navy college football game on Saturday, with kickoff set for noon.

Admission is $10 and doors will open at 11 a.m. at the Sequim VFW, 169 E. Washington St.

This year’s game is the 125th meeting between the No. 19 Army West Point Black Knights (11-1) and the Naval Academy Midshipmen (8-3).

Wings, sub sandwiches, chips and more will be served.

Drink specials will include a Paratrooper (Jameson Whisky and lemonade on the rocks) and a Green Beret mocktail (green berry punch, Sierra Mist with a splash of lemonade) for Army fans.

The Black Knights will wear special uniforms to recognize the soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division.

Navy fans can enjoy a Captain Blood (Captain Morgan rum with Coca-Cola on the rocks, garnished with a cherry) or a 7 Seas Spritzer mocktail with Rose’s Blueberry Spritzer and Sierra Mist.

The Navy football uniform will mimic the iconic color of the Jolly Rogers aircraft. The Jolly Rogers are considered the most lethal and history-rich squadron in all of naval aviation.

Navy holds a 62-55-7 advantage in the rivalry.
