Momentum One Volleyball travel team try outs set

PORT ANGELES — Momentum One Volleyball Academy will hold try out events for its U12-U14, and U15-U18 travel volleyball teams in November.

Volleyball players in the 13 and 14U age groups will try out from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and 12U will try out from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Stevens Middle School Gym, 1139 W. 14th St.

Call backs for 13 and 14U players will be Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Players in the 15-16 and 17-18U age groups will try out Nov. 23 at the Peninsula College gym, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., with 16U going from noon to 2:30 p.m., while 18U will try out from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Try outs will be competitive and players should wear proper shoes, athletic clothing, knee pads and bring a water bottle.

Tombstone Tournament

PORT TOWNSEND — A nine-hole Tombstone Tournament will be held today and Thursday at the Camas Prairie Golf Park, 1948 Blaine St.,

Players can pick their own tee time for the tournament.

A Tombstone Tournament is a spooky-themed golf tournament where players receive a set number of strokes based on their handicap plus the course par. Each player is given a “tombstone” to plant when they reach their stroke limit. The goal is to get their tombstone as far down the course as possible.

The cost is $24 for non-pass holders, free for annual pass holders with a $10 suggested donation.

Players can pick up their scorecard, rules and tombstone in the pro shop.

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Wrestling Club will begin practice Monday for kids in grades K-8.

Signups are open from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at 112 N. Lincoln St., second floor.

The cost is $150 per wrestler which includes a PAWC T-shirt and USA Wrestling card.

Practices will run from Nov. 3 until Jan. 22, with the advanced group of wrestlers going until Feb. 19.

Practices will be Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. for ages 5 to 8 and first-year 9-year-olds, and 6:45 p.m. until 8:15 p.m. from second-year 9-year-olds and kids 10 and older.

For the advanced group, second-year athletes 12 or older, the cost is $250 per wrestler, and there is an additional practice from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

Discounts are available for families with three or more participants. Scholarships are also available.

Intro to wrestling

PORT TOWNSEND — An Introduction to Freestyle Wrestling program for first- through eighth-graders will start Monday.

The program will be held in the Port Townsend High School wrestling room, 1500 Van Ness St., from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays through Nov. 14.

The cost is $20.

The program is geared toward learning the basics, working on fundamentals, technique and positioning.

The program will be taught by former Blue Heron Middle School head coach Ryan White.
