AREA SPORTS: Local competitors bring home Senior Games pickleball medals

AUBURN — Several local competitors took home gold medals in the Washington State Senior Games pickleball competition held in Auburn July 21-23.

Steve Bennett of Port Angeles took gold in the men’s singles 70-plus 3.5 division and in the men’s doubles’s 70-plus 4.5 division with Mike Wolf of Vancouver. In that same division, Martin Hoffman of Sequim and Jerry Patrick of Longview took silver.

In the women’s doubles division, Tricia Stratton and Cherry Bibler, both of Sequim, won gold in the 50-59 3.0 division. Beverly Hoffman of Sequim and Jeannie Ramsey of Port Townsend took silver in the 70-plus 4.0 women’s division and Sandi Bunn of Sequim and Lynn Pierle of Port Townsend took gold in the 60-69 3.5 division.

Yanging Chen of Port Anageles and her partner Barb Wise from Texas took gold in the women’s 60-69 4.0 doubles division.

Several local competitors also took home medals in the mixed doubles pickleball.

Marc Connelly of Sequim and his partner Karla Hubbell of Tacoma took gold in the 60-69 3.5 division while Bob Sester and Beverly Hoffman, both of Sequim, took gold in the 70-plus 4.0 division.

Julie Haney and her partner Jay Rippel of Bellevue took silver in the 50-59 5.0 division while Charlie Pugh of Sequim and Yanging Chen of Port Angeles took bronze in the 60-69 4.0 division.
