AREA SPORTS: Franklin student wins marathon medal design contest

PORT ANGELES — Twelve-year-old Lilly Sanders, a Franklin Elementary School student, is the grand prize winner of the North Olympic Discovery Marathon’s Kids Medal Design Contest.

For the first time, the marathon committee offered kids the chance to design the artwork for the medal. The kids marathon medal is presented to all kids who cross the finish line at the annual fun run event in June.

More than 60 contest forms were received. The contest exceeded expectations and will become an annual event.

The grand prize contest winner will be working with Victoria Jones, Race Director of the North Olympic Discovery Marathon, and the medal design team at Ashworth Awards to fine tune, approve, and finalize her kids marathon event medal. All contest winners receive an entry into the kids marathon event, a special certificate, and a thank-you goodies bag.

The 14th Annual Kids Marathon will be held at 4 p.m. June 3 at the Port Angeles City Pier.
