AREA SPORTS: Cedars Women’s group gets selective, YMCA Youth Hoops registration

Cedars ladies get Selective as part of weekly game

SEQUIM — Sunny, warm weather greeted 17 members of The Cedars at Dungeness’ Women’s Golf Association for their weekly Tuesday morning outing, with the group splitting into an eight-person first flight and a nine-person second flight for a game of Selective 9.

In Selective 9, your score on nine holes is selected by someone not in the competition, then you subtract half of your handicap. If you have a great hole, you are hoping it is one that is selected.

Marine Hirschfeld and Anne Elwell tied for the top of the first flight with Lisa Chon and Linda Hash tied for second.

More ties were made in flight two as Laurie McCulley and Ann Rosecrants tied for the top spot with Lori Oakes, Judy Reno and Kathy Langston all tied for third.

Elwell came closest to the pin with her tee shots on Nos. 8 and 17.

Elwell came within 3 feet, 9 inches of the cup on No. 8 and then found herself 6-2 away from a birdie on No. 17.

In the Second Flight, Lori Oaks was on target for No. 8 as her drive ended up 9 feet from the cup. Rosencrants earned the KP on No. 17, hitting it within 32 feet.

Mimi Shin had the low putt total for the day of 29 for the first flight, while Judy Reno posted 34 putts in flight two.

Shin also birdied the second hole, while Hirschfeld carded a birdie on No. 9 while shooting the low gross score of 85 and tying with Elwell for a low net total of 71.

Bobbie Piety also chipped in on the 18th hole to wrap the round up nicely.
