AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Wilder Jr. loses hearbreaker

BURLINGTON — Wilder Junior had a heartbreaking loss Thursday, allowing six runs in the seventh inning to fall to Whatcom Post No. 7 7-6.

The pitching duo of Hunter Stratford and Braedyn Boulden allowed just three hits and gave up just two earned runs. Wilder Junior was hurt by four errors and five unearned runs. All six Whatcom runs in the seventh came with two outs.

Wilder Junior had a chance for a comeback victory, getting two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh, but Whatcom was able to get a groundout to end the game.

Stratford started, going 6â…” innings, allowing two hits and striking out 10.

At the plate, Bryce Deleon went 3-for-4 with a run scored, two RBIs and a stolen base. Lincoln Bear hit a triple and had two RBIs. Brandt Perry was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases.

Wilder Junior’s record is 22-17.
