AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: West End squad pulls off upset

PORT ANGELES — Forks FC upset previously unbeaten Pura Vida 2-1 Sunday, tightening the race to the Peninsula Soccer League playoffs.

Oscar Gonzalez Sr. and Hugo Sandoval Jr. each scored goals for Forks FC, which improved to 3-1-1. Juan Gonzalez scored for Pura Vida, which fell to 4-1.

Windermere Real Estate slipped to 3-1-1 following a 2-1 loss to the Bandidos FC. Juan Servin and Cedric Bailey each scored for the Bandidos, who improved to 3-2. Maddie Boe scored for Windermere.

Salazar Painting stayed in the hunt with a 2-0 win over Strait Slice, improving to 3-2 on the season. Edgar Aceves, the league’s leading scorer with six, scored two goals for Salazar. Strait Slice fell to 1-4.

In Sunday’s other match, Pantry & Latch (0-1-4) and High Energy Metals (1-1-3) played to a 2-2 draw. Ben Stanley scored a pair of goals for Pantry, while Steve Lalonde and Craig Rice each scored for High Energy.

Alton leads Swain’s

PORT ANGELES — Tate Alton picked up four hits, including two doubles, to power Swain’s to a 6-3 Olympic Junior Babe Ruth win over Athletes’ Choice on Saturday. Luke Flodstrom went 2 for 4 with a double and Ryland Proettie also doubled to lead the Swain’s attack. Other hitters included Hunter Tennell, Trae Hanan, Joseph Ritchie and Jordan Shumway.

Alton also tossed five innings on the mound with seven strikeouts and no walks.

Athletes’ Choice loaded the bases in the seventh inning, but Flodstrom managed to close the door.

Kody Williams had a pair of hits and two RBIs, and Logan Slankard added two hits for Athletes’ Choice.
