AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Sol Duc, Quillayute fishing closed

OLYMPIA — The Quillayute and Sol Duc rivers outside of Olympic National Park were closed to all fishing Friday by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

All species are affected.

The Quillayute was closed from the Olympic National Park boundary upstream to the confluence of the Bogachiel and the Sol Duc rivers. The Sol Duc is closed all the way from its mouth to the Olympic National Park boundary.

The state Department of Fish and Wildlife took this action to protect wild summer coho returning to the river systems. The preseason forecast expected a return of fewer than 300 adults. The Quillayute watershed is experiencing record low flows, causing fish to remain in the lower stretch of the river.

Fishing will reopen when flows increase or stock assessment suggests that wild summer coho have started their upstream migration, according to the WDFW. The Quileute Tribe has also agreed to close its fishery until river flows improve.

Riders’ Bradow in Team Dream game

The All-American Bowl Committee announced Tuesday that Port Angeles’ Ty Bradow has accepted his invitation and will suit up for Team Dream or Team Stars in the DREAM All-American bowl to be held at AT&T Stadium in Dallas on Jan. 17, 2022.

Bradow, a member of the Class of 2022, is a wide receiver for the Roughriders. He had two receptions for 60 yards in the Riders’ opening game of the year and two catches for 38 yards Friday against East Jefferson. He has also played baseball and tennis for Port Angeles High School and baseball for the Wilder Baseball Club.

The Dream All-American Bowl is national all-star football game with senior high school top prospects from all over the nation participating at the home of the Dallas Cowboys.
