Area Sports Briefs: Sequim Youth Basketball sets dates for boys and girls tryouts; basketball officials needed

Sequim Youth Basketball sets season kick-off

SEQUIM — Seasons for SYB (Sequim Youth Basketball) Select teams start with tryout dates in mid-October.

Team organizers would like players to be at both dates if possible:

• Boys, grades 4-8 — 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18; 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21; both at Sequim High School gymnasium, 601 N. Sequim Ave.

• Girls, grades 5-8 — 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Sequim Middle School gymnasium, 301 W. Hendrickson Road; 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at Sequim High School.

Team organizers are also looking for fourth-grade girls interested in playing on a select team.

Registration for players in grades kindergarten-fourth grade is in November.

Volleyball league

PORT ANGELES – Registration is now open for the Peninsula Volleyball League, a coed league for experienced adult volleyball players.

Play begins with an open gym at 6:30 Nov. 1 and league play follows starting Nov. 8. Matches are played at the Peninsula College gymnasium on Thursdays as a fundraiser for Pirate basketball. The league is open to players age 16 and older.

The registration fee is $300 per team. To register, contact Rick Ross at Peninsula College at rross@pencol.edu.

Area officials needed

PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Basketball Officials Association is currently recruiting new members to help officiate the upcoming 2018-2019 middle and high school basketball season.

The association covers all nine school districts across the North Olympic Peninsula, including Sequim and Port Angeles.

The association offers a full training program, teamwork and camaraderie, as well as paid game opportunities.
