Kiwanis tops Leitz

PORT ANGELES — Kiwanis pounded out 12 hits in an 18-1 win over Leitz Farms in 16U softball action.

Kennedy Rognlien led the way with a triple and a home run. Natalee Thompson had three hits, including a triple.

Thompson also made a great catch in left center, and Rognlien and Becca Manson were solid at shortstop and first base, respectively.

Abby Rudd doubled twice and Maryrose Halberg was 2-for-2 with two walks and scored four runs.

Halberg was the winning pitcher, striking out five and allowing three hits.

Claire Smith tripled and Jordin Dunaway had two singles for Leitz.

Local walks it off

Local 155’s Alex Angevine doubled home Brian Belbin for the winning run in a 5-4 Olympic Junior Babe Ruth win over Westport on Wednesday.

Cole Beeman got the start on the mound for Local 155, going 3 1/3 striking out eight, allowing no hits. Beeman gave way to Angevine, who finished the game with six strikeouts and scattered two hits.

Great defense was on display, highlighted by a ground ball fielded by Angevine in the hole at shortstop and throwing the runner out at first to end the threat, a diving catch by Belbin with runners on and a hard grounder at third fielded by Brandt Perry and gunned to first for the out.
