Registration still open for PA youth wrestling

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Wrestling Club’s youth wrestling program for boys and girls in kindergarten through eighth grade is underway and accepting registration through the end of the month.

Port Angeles High School wrestling coach Rob Gale oversees the program and said 72 athletes were out for the first practice last week — the highest turnout he’s seen in his 15 years as a coach.

Practices will continue until Feb. 19.

All skill levels are welcome to participate in the program, which practices twice a week (with an additional two days of practice for an advanced/competitive group).

The fee is $80 per wrestler with families of three or more eligible for discounts. Scholarships also are available if needed. Advanced/competitive wrestlers are $120.

Fees include a PAWC T-shirt and a USA Wrestling registration card.

Practices are held in the Port Angeles High School gym’s wrestling room.

Wrestlers in kindergarten through third grade practice from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

Those in fourth through eighth grade practice from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

The advanced/competitive group meet for an additional practice from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Wrestling coaches are Dyllan Snavely, Chris Myers, Brian Cristion, JR Flores, Toby Abrams and Steve Anderson.
