SALEM, Ore. — A trio of former Port Angeles Roughriders cross-country and track and field teammates met as competitors at the 2023 Charles Bowles 8K Cross Country college meet held at Bush Park in Salem on Saturday.
Port Angeles’ Jack Gladfelter had the best showing of the trio. Running for Corban University, Gladfelter finished 19th out of 244 runners with a time of 25 minutes, 5.8 seconds. His former Roughrider teammate, Max Baeder, now running for Clark College in Vancouver, finished 81st with a time of 26:22.3.
In the women’s race, Kynzie DeLeon, also from Port Angeles High School, finished 83rd with a time of 19:38.5. She now runs for Portland State.
The race featured teams from throughout Washington and Oregon, with Texas-San Antonio, Bemidji State (Minn.) and Hawaii also sending teams.
Corban finished seventh out of 25 schools in the men’s race as Gladfelter was the second-fastest runner from that school. Clark finished 17th and Portland State finished ninth out of 23 women’s teams.

PORT ANGELES — There continues to be three unbeaten teams five weeks into the Peninsula Soccer League season.
Salazar Painting improved to 5-0 with a 4-1 win over Pura Vida. Pablo Salazar scored twice and Jose Vladimir and Edgar Aceves had goals for the winners. Rafael Flores had the lone goal for Pura Vida.
Forks FC also pushed its record to 5-0 with a 7-4 victory over Windermere Real Estate, which fell to 3-2. Tony Flores had a hat trick, Oscar Gonzalez scored twice and Arturo Dominguez and Hugo Sandoval also found the net for the Forks club. Luis Galvin, Ben Schneider, Evan Swenson and Ed Bier scored for Windermere.
High Energy Metals stayed in the hunt with a 7-1 romp over Ediz Hook FC, improving to 4-0-1 on the season. Chris Hartman and Sustin Walsh each scored twice, while Nick Allen, Travis Priest and Aldo Garcia contributed to the win. Kristina Becher had a goal for the U.S. Coast Guard club.
Pantry & Latch won its third match, outscoring Bandidos 4-2 with two goals from Ben Stanley and solo tallies from Mike Ingraham and Alec Harrison. C.J. Daniels and Chris Lopes scored for Bandidos.
In Sunday’s other match, Solace McGruther scored all five goals, leading Strait Slice to its first win of the season, a 5-2 nod over Los Primos. Alfredo Torres and Abraham Torres both scored for Los Primos.
