OLYMPIA — All salmon fishing in the eastern part of the Strait of Juan de Fuca closes temporarily today (Monday).
The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife announced Saturday that, based on current estimates, anglers are expected to reach the summer salmon legal encounter criteria of 6,550 Chinook by the end of the day Sunday.
This affects Marine Area 6 which runs from Low Point (Lyre River) to Point Wilson (Fort Worden, Port Townsend). Marine areas 4 (Neah Bay) and 5 (Sekiu) are not affected by this order.
Marine Area 6 will reopen for hatchery coho and pink salmon on Saturday.
