Lefties earn sweep with extra-inning win

KELOWNA, B.C. — RBI doubles by Danny Briones and Anthony Kodama in the 11th inning pushed Port Angeles to a series sweep of the Kelowna Falcons with a 6-5 win Thursday night.

Devean Alvarez got things going for the Lefties in the 11th, singling with one out, moving to second on a ground out by Jadon Arakaki and coming home on Briones’ double.

Kodama then faced incoming reliever Konnor Palmeira, finally finding a good pitch to hit and nailing an RBI double to bring home Briones.

Andrew Monson came on to pitch the bottom of the 11th for Port Angeles and struggled, allowing two walks, a passed ball and an RBI single to cut the Lefties’ lead to 6-5.

But with the bases loaded and just one out, Monson got Kam Edwards to hit into a double play to end the contest and earn the win.

Earlier, Port Angeles took a 4-2 lead in the ninth when Kodama pinch hit and reached via a two-base error by Kelowna, allowing Devean Alvarez and Jadon Arakaki to score.

Kelowna extended the game into extra innings on Jacob Steel’s two-out, two-run single to make it 4-4.

Lefties’ pitcher Luke McCullough pitched well in relief, allowing just one hit and no walks while striking out five batters in three innings of work.

Port Angeles hosts Victoria tonight at 6:35 p.m. and Sunday at 1:35 p.m.
