AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Kiwanis bats, pitching too much for KONP

Combining Chimacum, Port Townsend topic

PORT ANGELES — Kiwanis defeated KONP 14-1 this weekend in U16 girls softball action.

Josephine Edgington pitched all five innings and struck out six batters for Kiwanis. She walked one batter and allowed four hits.

Kiwanis tallied 14 hits. Alexis Perry led the team with three hits while Maryrose Halberg had two hits and scored three times. Abby Kimball and Kaylee Oldemeyer each had two hits and scored twice.

Savannah Boulton had two hits, while Audrey Gales and Lily Thomas each had hits.

Jasmine Messinger and Heidi Leitz split time on the mound for KONP. Messinger had a strikeout and Leitz had three strikeouts.

Leitz and Aubrey Hebert each had two hits for KONP, while Bridget Weed and Jordyn Erdmann also picked up hits. Erdmann also scored a run.

Combining Chimacum, Port Townsend topic

PORT TOWNSEND — Port Townsend and Chimacum high schools will hold a community forum on the possibility of combining sports from both schools in the longterm.

This past year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the two schools have combined to play sports.

The meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on May 11. The meeting will be via Zoom on the schools’ websites at www.ptschools.org and www.csd49.org/CJSHS/home and on their athletic websites at www.ptredhawks.com and www.chimacumathletics.com.
