AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Home run derby set for PA beach

PORT ANGELES — The 2018 West Coast League All-Star Game Home Run Derby contest will be part of an evening of entertainment centered around City Pier on Monday.

The event is free and open to the public.

A beer garden will begin serving suds at 4 p.m.

Port Angeles-based indie rock band The Terps will perform at 5:30 p.m.

The home run derby will begin at 6:30 p.m. with competitors bashing baseballs from the beach at Hollywood Beach out into Port Angeles Harbor.

Viewing locations include the Olympic Discovery Trail, City Pier and near the beach.

Port Angeles-based band Crushwater will perform after the derby concludes.

Tickets for the WCL All-Star Game, set Tuesday at Civic Field at 6:35 p.m., are available at www.leftiesbaseball.com.

Riders represent

LYNDEN — The Port Angeles Roughriders varsity boys basketball team wrapped a successful Lynden Invitational with a second-place finish out of 27 teams from across Washington and British Columbia over the weekend.

Port Angeles went 4-0 in pool play, beating teams from Cedar Park Christian, Ferndale and two British Columbia AAU squads.

The Riders knocked off Burlington-Edison 58-42 in the tournament semifinals before falling to Lynden Christian 75-58 in the title game.

Port Angeles will open its 2018-19 season home slate Nov. 29 against Lynden Christian, a team with two potential NCAA Division I players.

Sprint boat tickets

PORT ANGELES — Tickets and reserved camping spots for the two upcoming sprint boat races on Saturday, July 28, and Saturday, Sept. 29 at Extreme Sports Park are available online at www.brownpaper tickets.com.

Ticket prices are now $25 for adults (ages 16 and older); $20 for seniors (55 and older) and the military; $15 for kids ages 6 to 15 and free for kids age 5 and under.

Camping fees are $30 for Friday through Sunday and $40 for Thursday through Sunday.

Pit passes are available at the event only for an additional $5.

Canopy spots and VIP passes are available by calling Kelie Morrison at 360-460-2601.
