AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Forks’ Flores named Evergreen League Offensive MVP

Six Spartans earn All-League honors; Glasser scores 17 to pace Peninsula College win

FORKS — Forks senior forward Tony Flores was selected as Class 2B/1A Evergreen League Boys Soccer Offensive Player of the Year in all-league voting conducted by league coaches.

Joining Flores on the all-league team are senior teammates Rafael Terrones, goalkeeper; Colton Duncan and Luis Torres, center back; Andres Santos, left back; Teo Ayala, midfield and junior right mid Juan Pablo Flores.

Elma’s Rene Duran was voted Defensive Player of the Year and Andy Salvatierra Goalkeeper of the Year.

Forks (11-1) beat Elma 4-0 on its way to winning the Evergreen League title and advancing to the district championship game.

Pirates win

MOUNT VERNON — Sequim’s Hope Glasser led the way for the Peninsula College women’s basketball team with a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double in the Pirates’ 60-38 win over Skagit Valley.

Glasser connected on seven of 12 shots, including knocking down a 3-point shot, and tallied three steals to pace Peninsula in Wednesday’s contest.

The Pirates shot 50 percent from the floor (25 of 50) and limited the Cardinals to a 26-percent shooting performance (15 of 58).

Tayvia Cabatbat added 11 points and seven rebounds, Ariyanna Camacho-Villafuerte scored nine, and Tasiah Little posted eight points and seven rebounds for Peninsula.

The Pirates improved to 3-3 and moved into third place in the NWAC North Division standings.

Peninsula’s men and women are both back in action at home Saturday against Everett at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The Pirate men were off Wednesday due to COVID issues with the Skagit men’s program.
