PORT ANGELES — While there are unique terms for four, five and six goals in a soccer match, there seems to be no term for eight goals in a game.
Forks FC’s Hugo Salazar will get to come up with any name he wants as he had a day to remember, scoring eight goals in a 17-4 win over Ediz Hook in Peninsula Soccer League action Sunday.
In addition to Salazar’s flurry, Jesus Ayala had a hat trick and Luis Perez scored two goals. Lili Galiana, Arturo Dominguez and Julio Moroto also scored goals.
For Ediz Hook, Gerardo Bojorquez scored two goals, while Oscar Del Rosario and Matt Harris scored goals.
In a pair of huge games for the league championship, unbeaten High Energy Metals got by Windermere 2-1. Windermere previously had one loss in league and could’ve forced a first-place tie with a win.
Dustin Walsh and Travis Priest scored for High Energy Metals, while Windermere got its score on an own goal.
Strait Slice moved into undisputed second place with a 3-0 win over Salazar Painting. Jay Marazon had a hat trick for Strait Slice to account for all of the game’s scoring.
Meyer Electric beat Bandidos 6-1. Brandon Wagner had three goals, while Santiago Musso had two and Josiah Long one. Emmanuel Patterson scored for Bandidos.
Los Primos also had a high-scoring game, beating Pantry & Latch 9-2. Eduardo Barrera, Juan Torres, Christian Cortez and Saul Torres all scored two goals for Los Primos. Dallas Taylor and Mike Ingraham scored for Pantry & Latch.
High Energy Metals leads the league at 6-0-1 (19 points), while Strait Slice is second at 5-1-1 (16 points), Forks FC third at 5-2-0 (15 points) and Windermere and Salazar Painting tied for fourth at 4-2-1 (13 points).
Dungeness closed
OLYMPIA — The lower Dungeness River will be closed from Wednesday to Oct. 22, though the upper reaches of the river will be open to coho.
The closure runs from the mouth of the river at the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the Woodcock Road Bridge. The Department of Fish and Wildlife stated that the reason for the closure is unseasonably dry weather and low water conditions in the Dungeness River system. The closure is necessary to protect Chinook eggs from disruption until river flows are higher and the eggs are more fully developed.
The Dungeness River from the Woodcock Road Bridge to the mouth of the Gray Wolf River will open to coho fishing Wednesday. Anglers are asked to avoid walking on Chinook redds. Anglers can check the emergency rules webpage at https://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/regulations/emergency-rules for updates.
Razor clams open again
OLYMPIA — The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife shellfish managers confirmed, razor clam digging opportunities on four coastal beaches from Oct. 15-21.
“It was a great first tide series of the season last week (Oct. 3-7) with soft wind, calm waves and dry skies that resulted in mostly limits for those that came out,” said Bryce Blumenthal, a WDFW coastal shellfish biologist. “We are hoping this next tide series will bring similar success with lower and earlier tides that should allow for daylight digging opportunity the first few days.”
