AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Forks FB drops out of top 10; PC women’s basketball fundraiser

SEATTLE — After losing to Morton-White Pass on the road, Forks football fell out of the 2B top 10 preps poll.

Neah Bay, meanwhile, maintained its hold on the No. 2 ranking in the 1B poll after crushing rival Lummi 70-8. Neah Bay (3-0) received one first-place vote and has 71 points in the poll. Odessa received six first-place votes and has 78 points.

Forks had been ranked fourth in the 2B poll, but lost 24-13 to Morton-White Pass last weekend, with is ranked ninth with a 3-0 record. Forks still received seven votes in the poll and could get back in the top 10 with a couple of wins. Napavine is ranked No. 1 among 2B schools.

North Kitsap is ranked fourth in the 2A poll. The Vikings beat Port Angeles 52-0 at Lumen Field last week. Port Angeles has been shut out by both the No. 4 and the No. 8 (Anacortes) 2A teams in the state.

Forks XC meet

FORKS — Forks’ Moli Luong won the girls race at the Forks High School cross-country meet held Tuesday at the Olympic Natural Resources Center.

Luong won with a time of 27 minutes, 27 seconds. Kendall Marshall was second at 29:33 and Annika Leverington was third at 32:06.

In the boys’ race, Nova Raupp finished second with a time of 22:43 and Kevin Camacho-Roldan was third at 22:54. Klayton Fletcher was sixth at 26:51 and Nik Kelley eighth at 34:04.

Crab Fest 5K coming

PORT ANGELES — Area basketball fans can help the Peninsula College women’s basketball team get back to the Northwest Athletic Conference championship by participating in the annual Crab Fest 5K on Oct. 8.

The race begins at 11 a.m. at the Port Angeles city pier.

The event, a fundraiser for Peninsula College women’s basketball, is open to runners and walkers of all ages. The entry fee is $35 and participants will go home with a Crab Fest mug. Registration is available on Peninsula College’s athletics web page under event tickets, www.athletics.pencol.edu/event-tickets, or on race day starting at 9:30 am.

“This is one of the primary fundraisers for coach Ali Crumb and her women’s basketball team,” said Rick Ross, associate dean for athletics and student life. “This run/walk offers a great low-key way for area fans to support that program.”

Rams tryouts

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Rams professional basketball team will be holding an open tryout at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Elwha Gym at 2851 Lower Elwha Road in Port Angeles.
