PORT ANGELES — An Extreme Timber Sports Show highlights the first Fall Fest, a free weekend of outdoor family entertainment set Oct. 22-24.
Fall Fest will be held at Extreme Sports Park, 2917 W. Edgewood Drive.
The festival runs from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23 and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24.
The logging show will run from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and features 25 competitors from around the country and Canada, some of which hold national and world titles for Stihl Timbersports.
A women’s division also is slated.
A timber-themed event, Fall Fest includes the Lumberjack Lounge, a 6,000 square-foot covered beer garden with beer, wine and cider.
A Lil’ Logger Playground with a hay maze, pumpkin patch, bounce house and other inflatables also is planned.
A zombie-themed fun run is set for 1 p.m. Saturday.
Wood-carving demonstrations also are scheduled.
Sunday’s events include a Jeep rock crawling demo at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. and a lawnmower demolition derby from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
On Halloween, Fall Fest will host a Trick-or-Treat Trail from noon to 6 p.m.
All events are free and open to the public.
AAU hoops tryouts
PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Boys AAU program will hold tryouts next week.
Players will need to wear a mask and bring their own basketball and water bottle.
Tryouts are set at the Port Angeles Boys & Girls Club, 2620 S. Francis St., on Tuesday and Thursday.
Fourth- through sixth-graders will meet from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with sessions for seventh- and eighth-graders from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. each day.
Another tryout session will be held Friday, Oct. 22, at the YMCA of Port Angeles, 302 S. Francis St.
Fourth- through sixth-graders will work out from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with seventh- and eighth-graders following from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.
During the basketball season, teams will practice twice a week and play in four or five out of town tournaments.

PC men win
EVERETT — First-half goals by Nicolas Hernandez and Fernando Tavares sparked the No. 1 ranked Peninsula College men’s soccer team to a 2-0 win over Everett on Wednesday.
Hernandez notched his goal in the 29th minute, assisted by Jonathan DeMotta.
Hernandez provided the assist to Tavares on his 35th minute goal.
Ian Dalton earned the save in goal.
Peninsula (9-0, 12-0) hosts Skagit Valley on Wednesday.
