AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Bremerton state champions in boys 2A basketball

YAKIMA — For the second time in five years, a boys basketball state 2A champion has come out of the Olympic League.

Olympic League co-champion Bremerton won the state championship Saturday night, defeating Prosser 74-53.

Bremerton, a No. 3 seed, had a relatively easy journey through the state tournament, beating Lakewood 62-44, Franklin Pierce 57-42 and R.A. Long 62-54.

In a titanic game in Sequim, Sequim beat Bremerton 66-61 to force a tie for the Olympic League championship, splitting the two regular-season games against the Knights. Bremerton won a rubber match game 77-67 over the Wolves, which was added to determine the Olympic League’s No. 1 seed.

Port Angeles went 0-2 against the Knights, though the Roughriders outscored Bremerton over three quarters after falling behind 23-0 in one game.

North Kitsap won the state championship in 2020.
