Pirate hoops women win NWAC honors
PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College women’s basketball players were honored recently with inclusion on the Northwest Athletic Conference Northern Region All-Region teams.
Pirate sophomore Ashlynn Sharp was a first-team pick for Peninsula after averaging 9.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.
Freshmen guards Kuutuuq Danner and Leilani Padilla were second-team selections.
Danner put in 9.9 points per game, while grabbing 5.6 rebounds and making 1.7 assists every contest.
Padilla also was voted to the Northern Region All-Defensive team. She averaged a team-high 10.5 points along with 3.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals.
Everett freshman Hannah Hezekiah was voted Northern Region Most Valuable Player after finishing fifth overall in the NWAC with 20.2 points per game.
Olympic freshman Danielle Monzon was picked as Freshman of the Year and Olympic head coach Dave Hawkins was voted Coach of the Year.
WIAA honors Swan
NEAH BAY — Neah Bay sophomore Courtney Swan was picked as a Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) Athlete of the Week.
Swan’s play pushed the Red Devils to a third-place finish at the Class 1B state girls basketball tournament.
She had 13 points, six steals, five rebounds and two assists in Neah Bay’s third-place game win over Almira/Coulee-Hartline.
Each winner receives a letter of recognition from the WIAA executive director, a commemorative WIAA Athlete of the Week promotional item and a certificate.
Fun run/pub crawl
PORT ANGELES — The Shamrock Shuffle 5K/10K Fun Run and a Downtown Pub Crawl will be held Saturday along the Waterfront Trail and through downtown Port Angeles.
The events are fundraisers for the Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Club and the Hurricane Ridge Ski and Snowboard Team.
Registration and check-in for both events will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the Crabhouse Restaurant.
The fun run will go out and back along the Olympic Discovery Trail, starting and ending at City Pier.
Adult fun run participants are $35, youth are $25 and children 6 and younger are free.
Pub crawlers must be 21 years of age and tickets are $45.
A dual racer/crawler registration is $60.
Designated drivers are available for $10.
Prizes will be awarded for the best St. Patrick’s Day inspired attire, as well as for fastest female and fastest male.
All fun run and pub crawl participants receive prizes and swag.
