AREA SPORTS BRIEF: Days added for shrimping at Discovery Bay and Admiralty Inlet

OLYMPIA — The recreational spot shrimp fishery will reopen in the Discovery Bay Shrimp District today and Marine Area 9 (Admiralty Inlet) on June 13.

“We are excited to announce some additional spot shrimp fishing opportunities in several marine areas,” said Aaron Dufault, WDFW Puget Sound shellfish manager. “Challenging weather on the May 16 opener likely lowered the expected harvest results in added days to the schedule.”

Following a review of the recreational shrimp catch, WDFW shellfish managers determined that enough of the quota remains to offer the additional days.

The Discovery Bay Shrimp District will be open to all shrimp species from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today only.

Marine Area 9 (Port Townsend and Admiralty Inlet) will be open for all shrimp species from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 13.
