AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Sr. wins Mount Vernon tourney on Wyatt Hall walk-off

MOUNT VERNON — Wilder Sr. got a walk-off hit from Wyatt Hall to win the Nate Steffens Memorial Tournament in Mount Vernon, 7-6 over the Venom on Sunday afternoon.

Venom, an Arlington-based team, was up 5-0 after three innings, but Wilder fought back with a run in the fourth, three in the fifth and finally three in the bottom of the seventh.

Hall had a monster game to cap off a monster tournament, going 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored, a walk and five RBIs.

Wilder went 4-0-1 at the tournament. They had one game that ended in a tie.

Trey Baysinger hit a double and scored a run, while Michael Grubb had a hit and two runs scored. Connor Bear had a hit and a run scored, and Ty Bradow had a hit and an RBI. Logan Olson added an RBI.

On the mound, Wilder Sr. allowed just six hits. John Vaara started, going two innings, giving up three hits and three earned runs. He walked two and struck out two. Seth Woods pitched an inning, giving up a hit, two walks and an earned run while striking out two.

Baysinger picked up the victory by pitching a solid final four innings. He allowed two hits, two walks and an earned run while striking out one.

Wilder Sr. is scheduled to play Seattle Select at Shoreline High School today and then begins play Monday in the eight-team, double-elimination American Legion AAA State Tournament in Kennewick.
