SELAH — The Pacific Northwest Senior Babe Ruth champion Wilder Senior baseball club didn’t miss a beat Saturday, winning its American Legion AAA tournament opener 9-2 over the Kelly Brady Bagpipers out of Spokane.
Wilder Senior (31-7-1) is already going to the Babe Ruth Senior World Series in Ocala, Fla. Now, they’re trying to do damage in the American Legion AAA tourney.
The seniors got a combined three-hitter from Brayden Martin, Devyn Dearinger and Braydan White. Martin went three innings, allowing one hit and one earned run while striking out three. Dearinger went three innings, allowing one hit and striking out three. White pitched the seventh, allowing one hit.
The seniors were led by Josiah Gooding, who went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. White hit a double while driving in a run and scoring a run, while Colton Romero had a hit with three runs scored.
Jordan Shumway didn’t have a hit, but hit two sacrifice flies for two RBIs. Ezra Townsend hit a double, scored a run and drove in a run, while Luke Flodstrom and Rylan Politika each had a hit and two runs scored.
Wilder Senior played its second-round game late Sunday after press deadline against Yakima Pepsi Pak. The seniors play again today at either 4 p.m. or 7 p.m.
